Rimani, a company specialized in the design and implementation of innovative lighting solutions based in Turin, included in its project portfolio the lighting of the Libeskind Tower, the iconic skyscraper in the Milan skyline, located in CityLife.
Commissioned by the design studio Bianchi-Rossi, the project was carried out with the aim of highlighting the building’s distinctive feature, 'the Crown', through lighting, making it visible and recognizable even during the night hours.
Concept and goals
Created through an extremely precise combination of concrete and metal structures on the façades, the 'Crown' is the distinguishing feature of the skyscraper. A large glass volume, 40 meters in height and weighing 600 tons of steel and glass, completes the building's spherical shape.
At the base, the product design concept was developed with the goal of illuminating the top of the skyscraper, nicknamed the 'Curved,' emphasizing the curvilinear and asymmetrical shape of the roof by outlining its perimeter and creating a sort of 'crown.' This was achieved through the installation of small, easy-to-install Rimani products, which could be slightly curved to follow the required profile

The Rimani product: Longitudinal
For the Libeskind Tower project, Rimani proposed and developed a product capable of withstanding harsh weather conditions and extreme temperatures, offering a high level of protection.
For this reason, Rimani installed Longitudinal, a high-color-rendering LED linear battery system designed for applications where diffuse lighting needs to meet quality requirements. The product features a diameter of only 2 cm and a custom length, which for the Libeskind Tower reaches 3 meters, providing high application flexibility.
The use of waterproof quick-connect connectors between products facilitated the installation phase on the tower’s roof, allowing for a continuous line of light.
The Longitudinal product provided has an absorption of about 20W/m, with a neutral light tone (4000K), diffuse type lighting, and an emission angle of approximately 120°.

Benefits and sustainability
The solution adopted by Rimani brings several benefits, addressing all the technical requirements set by the client in a simple yet effective way.
The Libeskind Tower is, in fact, a true example of excellence in the field of sustainability: the structure, systems, and technology have been designed to minimize energy and water consumption. The skyscraper, standing 175.5 meters tall, with 34 floors and 33,500 square meters of surface area, has received pre-certification for LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design), one of the most authoritative international standards for assessing the environmental sustainability of buildings.
Within this sustainability framework, the project implemented a solution utilizing low-energy LED technology that is durable over time.
